First Nations War Veterans
I decided to interview one of the war veterans at the Pow Wow because I feel that our veterans are a source of pride for our people. First Nations people have been volunteering to go to war even before we were recognized as citizens. It is amazing to me that even with the ongoing problems that we have had politically, First Nations people have cared enough to risk, and many times lose, their lives. Those that have come through have often felt broken, and needed to rebuild. Many could not rebuild. That's why when I see veterans at a Pow Wow, I am proud. Somehow those veterans have been able to get past surviving and into living a positive life.
